This large plant can reach a height of 5-7’. The 12” wide leaves are lobed, somewhat triangular in shape, and attach to the stem by a winged, hairy stalk. The 1-2 inch yellow flowers form in clusters from July-August, and contain large seeds that give the center a dark color and provide a source of food for birds.
