Switchgrass is a clumping grass native to the prairie that works well in the home landscape. The open flower heads drift over the plants like clouds in the mid- to late summer. In the fall the leaves turns yellow, with tints of orange. The stalks can remain standing throughout the winter – and their seeds are a good source of food for birds.
